Inter Miami are set to sign River Plate defender David Martinez after he was included in the squad list for the Leagues Cup.

Major League Soccer released the squad lists ahead of the upcoming return of the Leagues Cup and River Plate centre-back David Martinez was included alongside the rest of the Inter Miami names. The 26-year-old will link up with Lionel Messi in Florida as they look to go back-to-back in the competition.

Although the signing may have leaked, Miami fans will be happy to be bringing in a quality defender in Martinez. The 11-cap Paraguay international is a two-time league champion with River Plate and will sure up the defence alongside the likes of Jordi Alba in the near future.

Although he represents Paraguay at international level, Martinez was born in Buenos Aires in Argentina. It will certainly be a talking point for him when he eventually meets up with Messi, who is fresh off winning the Copa America for a second time.
