Arsenal have a deep and talented squad, so it’s only natural that certain players will slip under the radar, spending most of their time plugging away in training in the hope of getting a spot on the bench, or even a rare start. Joel Campbell falls firmly into that category, with the Costa Rican, who has been a Gunners player since 2011, having made only a handful of appearances. In truth he’s been away on loan for a vast chunk of his North London career, however, that does not detract from this evening against Spurs being his first appearance in a starting XI for Arsenal since January 4th… a full 262 days ago.
In a period in which Arsene Wenger’s side have struggled with striking shortcomings – both in terms of ability and sheer numbers – it’s quite baffling that the player who shone at the World Cup last summer has been so shamelessly pushed aside. And, judging by the vibe on Twitter, supporters of the capital-based side are happy to see Campbell back…
