According to reports in Turkey, Everton are keen on landing Oguzhan Ozyakup from Besiktas.
What’s the Story?
Keen to bolster their underperforming squad in January, Everton are interested in signing Turkish midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup from Besiktas.
The former Arsenal youth product has been with the Istanbul based club for five years and has been a constant presence at the heart of their midfield. The 25-year-old is also a key player for the Turkish national team and has amassed 30 caps since 2013.
Everton are reportedly looking to bid for Ozyakup, who is valued at £10.8million by Transfermarkt, in a bid to shake up their midfield for the second half of the season.
How good has Ozyakup been this season?
The midfielder has featured in 13 games for Besiktas this season and while his performances in the Superlig have been somewhat disappointing, it’s his Champions League form that has caught the eye.
Arguably the best player on the pitch during games against Leipzig and Monaco, Ozyakup demonstrated that he can dominate a midfield and provide a serious attacking threat from deep.
Would Ozyakup be a good signing for Everton?
A tough one. While there is no doubt that the Turkish star has a wealth of talent and a bright future, Everton first need to sort out their overstuffed midfield. With arguably 10 players fighting for three spots in midfield, including three new signings, the Toffees have some work to do to organise the total mess that their squad has become.
If their new manager can achieve this by the end of January, there is no reason why Oguzhan Ozyakup shouldn’t be signed.
